Description

2025 first harvest

From the Gosake mountains in Miyazaki prefecture, a delightful and single-cultivar award-winning organic oolong tea made by Miyazaki Sabo, with high floral notes of elderflower and a fruity and honey base.

Miyazaki san studied the techniques of Taiwan oolong tea masters to craft this exceptional delicacy.

A lightly oxidised oolong, crafted from the rare Minamisayaka cultivar. It produces a sweet liquor with a creamy and vanilla profile. In the cup, after the first brew, its floral and herbaceous flavour is clean and refreshing, leading to a mouthwatering aftertaste. With each subsequent brewing, the tea tastes richer and deeper, revealing floral motifs and leaving a long, powerful aftertaste.

The name of the cultivar translates as 'Southern Freshness' and is known for its milky, floral, and refreshing aroma.

This batch is from the first flush spring 2025 harvest, and this rare Japanese oolong tea was the winner of the Platinum Award at the 2021 Nihoncha Awards.

Aromatic Profiles

MIYAZAKI RYO

We have been doing organic cultivation for tea with pesticide-free and chemical fertilizer-free for over 30 years and received certification of organic JAS in 2001.

We produce Oolong tea and Kamairicha a true specialty in our region, Miyazaki. Since this technique is difficult to master there are less and less producers that are producing Kamaricha.

The tea is not steamed, but roasted in a large pan. Its fragrance is called “kamaka”, a sweet taste and refreshing feeling and can sometimes recall the scent of Jasmine tea.

MIYAZAKI SABO has won many national awards for their kamairicha and oolong tea, including the Nihoncha Awards in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2021.
