Description

2024 first harvest

With TOMOKO, Miyazaki san has created a unique oolong-style kamairicha. The tea leaves are lightly withered. They are pan-fired after extracting the aroma from the tea leaves themselves, creating a fragrant tea with the scent of flower incense.

This organic tea is refreshing and lively, with with notes of gardenia, buttered spinach, and dried chestnut. If you are looking for a sweet and light-bodied cup, with jasmine hints, this is the tea for you. This tea will make you smile cheerfully like Miyazaki-san!

The perfect choice for those who don't like very much the grassy and sea-weed taste of more traditional green teas.

Aromatic Profiles

MIYAZAKI RYO

We have been doing organic cultivation for tea with pesticide-free and chemical fertilizer-free for over 30 years and received certification of organic JAS in 2001.

We produce KAMAIRICHA a true specialty in our region, Miyazaki. Since this technique is difficult to master there are less and less producers that are producing Kamaricha.

The tea is not steamed, but roasted in a large pan. Its fragrance is called “kamaka”, a sweet taste and refreshing feeling and can sometimes recall the scent of Jasmine tea.

MIYAZAKI SABO has won many national awards for their kamairicha, including the Nihoncha Awards in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2021.

Sensational!

As someone who enjoys both green and oolong tea, I was intrigued by this Tomoko Kamairicha. Indeed, the flavour profile definitely calls to mind the lighter oxidized Taiwanese oolongs but with more pizazz! A deliciously delightful tea that is sure to put a smile on your face.

great introduction to light / "floral" flavor

This tea introduced me to what is meant by a "floral" flavor. My first steeping was disappointing because I came in expecting something more full flavored or sweet. My second time I was more open to the flavors and immediately understood how the flavor can be refreshing. Would definitely recommend giving this a shot to understand that kind of flavor profile. Note that you can steep this _many_ times. I've been steeping it for 4-6 rounds and still find the flavor to be quite good (especially if allowed to cool slightly to nearer to room temperature). In that sense this is more an oolong than a sencha.
