A dark, mahogany brown powder, KIE has notes of dark chocolate, dates, tobacco and burnt sugar. Description

With its rich dark color, KIE is an organic houjicha powder brought to us from the mountains of Nagasaki Prefecture.

A dark, mahogany brown powder, KIE has notes of dark chocolate, dates, tobacco and burnt sugar. An exceedingly rich bouquet that has us wishing it could be bottled as perfume.

Representing a darker and more sophisticated entry in our houjicha series, KIE has a more robust profile that cuts through any milk for a flavorful latte experience. Served straight, it has a full body with a startlingly clean, fresh aftertaste with hints of apricot.

Strong but refined, with hints of black coffee when first introduced to hot water, but none of the bitterness or acidity.

This Houjicha is currently a best-seller and staple in many coffees in Europe and US. After its successful launch for our professional customers, we are excited to offer in our shop.

Preparation suggestions

Houjicha latte with a sesame twist: mix 1,5 - 2 teaspoon of sesame paste with 1,5 teaspoon of brown sugar and 150 to 200ml of hot milk. Mix well. Then whisk 3-4g of houjicha powder with 80ml of water at 80C. Pour the milk into the houjicha.

For a straight houjicha powder drink: whisk 1g of powder in 80-100ml of water at 80C.

KITAMURA MAKOTO

Kitamura Seicha was founded in the mountains of Nagasaki in 1954. Kitamura Seicha was recognized by JAS, the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries as the first organic item for Nagasaki.

They take the organic moniker and responsibilities that go with it quite seriously, and to meet growing international demand for organic tea, have undergone SGS testing and are aiming for HACCP certification.

Kitamura Seicha has received many awards for their hard work in organic farming over the years, including The Yellow Ribbon Medal a rare distinction awarded by the country of Japan.
