Description

2024 first harvest

Irie-san’s decades of experience producing chemical- and pesticide-free green tea truly shows with this stunning sencha. This tea is grown at 600 meters above sea level which allows the tea leaves to absorb more nutrients, minerals, and vitamins. This pleasant and well-balanced sencha is a great everyday option. Subtle notes of persimmon and toasted almond accent a smooth liquor with notes of steamed bok choy and sweet grass.

JUN is among a handful of organic teas grown in the Yame area. This tea is definitely one of our favorite and probably the best one to discover and enjoy Japanese green tea.

Made in small quantities by a farmer who relies on the sole power of nature, it is an exceptional and rare tea that even our clients in Japan are surprised to discover. Irie san’s tea has passed the most stringent tests, including those set up in Germany.

IRIE TOSHIRO

Irie Toshiro became convinced of the health benefits of green tea when, at 20, he suffered from gallstones and recovered quickly thanks to taking up to drinking green tea from his hometown, Yame.

For 35 years now, Irie san has invested his time and energy to grow 100% chemical- and pesticide-free green tea. As such, he was one of the first tea producers in Japan to embrace organic tea production. Along with his son, he shows the utmost care for his fields and the environment, and is a fervent defender of sustainable agriculture and tea production.

great complement to "sweet" sencha

I mostly prefer more umami-heavy teas. Jun surprised me for a nuanced flavor that I could enjoy to complement having more sweet sencha variants.

Sweet and savory

This is a light-bodied sencha with a sweet, brothy aroma that is reminiscent of steamed vegetables. What makes the tea memorable, for me, is the taste: it's both sweet and savory, at the same time — amazing!

First off, I ordered this purely on the basis of the name - which is my second daughter’s middle name. Am utterly in love with this sencha, couldn’t imagine a more refreshing tea to start off my mornings. It’s light with a deep savouriness that lingers. One of my absolute favourites.

Well balanced umami, with a real classic Yame taste but is also very palatable for folks with different preferences. A nice refreshing, clean, quench. This tea is also organic!
