MOMOTA AKIO
Blue Sea Sencha Cup
Description
An IKKYU exclusivity!
From the renowned porcelain town of Arita in Saga, this is an exquisite handmade porcelain cup ideal for enjoying sencha, tamaryokucha or kamairicha, with a beautiful flow of blue-white porcelain unique to the artist. Its color will remind you of the sea off the coast of Kyushu island on a summer day.
The sensory contrast between the blue glaze and white foot is extraordinary. The harmony of the partial glaze and the beauty of the blank space gives Momota san’s works a unique charm.
Its perfect finish makes it hard to believe that it is handmade. Blue-white porcelain is made using a glaze containing little iron that yields a bluish tint when applied to unglazed pottery.
This technique was originally created in China. Part of the “Blue Sea” collection created exclusively for IKKYU by Momota Aiko san, including a gyokuro cup, a sencha cup and a matcha bowl.
Because of the incredible skills needed to make this beautiful collection, it takes about six to eight weeks to make three cups. Please contact us to place a pre-order in case of momentary unavailability.
