Description

Organic kamairicha master Miyazaki Ryo san in Miyazaki crafted TOJI, a fragrant and refreshing organic houjicha powder using roasted kamairicha leaves, making this tea quite unique.

An all-rounder with a nice café au lait color and light sandalwood notes, TOJI will give you a comforting hot houjicha latte. It's an excellent match for all kinds of vegetal or regular milks (almond, oats, soy or cow milk).

If you feel you need to sweeten your latte a little, we suggest maple syrup, brown sugar or kinako powder instead of refined sugar.

Miyazaki san recommends TOJI as the perfect base for houjicha treats, whether for making cakes or ice cream.

Preparation suggestions

Houjicha latte with a sesame twist: mix 1,5 - 2 teaspoon of sesame paste with 1,5 teaspoon of brown sugar and 150 to 200ml of hot milk. Mix well. Then whisk 3-4g of houjicha powder with 80ml of water at 80C. Pour the milk into the houjicha.

For a straight houjicha powder drink: whisk 1g of powder in 80-100ml of water at 80C.

Aromatic Profiles

MIYAZAKI RYO

We have been doing organic cultivation for tea with pesticide-free and chemical fertilizer-free for over 30 years and received certification of organic JAS in 2001.

We produce KAMAIRICHA a true specialty in our region, Miyazaki. Since this technique is difficult to master there are less and less producers that are producing Kamaricha.

The tea is not steamed, but roasted in a large pan. Its fragrance is called “kamaka”, a sweet taste and refreshing feeling and can sometimes recall the scent of Jasmine tea.

MIYAZAKI SABO has won many national awards for their kamairicha, including the Nihoncha Awards in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2021.
