2024 first harvest

This premium, first-harvest sencha hails from Chiran area, Kagoshima prefecture, the largest tea production area of Japan, and is one of the leading products of Shimono-en. REI is a bright and refreshing sencha made with a blend of four cultivars (Yutaka Midori, Yabukita, Sae Midori, and Asatsuyu).

This sencha has notes of zucchini, buttered spinach, and sweetgrass, and a lingering sweetness and rich umami characteristics. Subtle notes of snap pea and marjoram support its fragrant liquor. This deep-steamed (fukamushi) sencha should be brewed for about 60 seconds at 70°C.

The very fresh fragrance of this sencha and its pleasing and beautiful green color make it a real jewel. You can still enjoy its quality and complexity after a second and third brews.

modestly sweet

A somewhat sweeter sencha, less than Yana. If you find Yana overpowering this may fit the bill better. I'm still experimenting with steeping times and temperatures to refine the flavor to my liking.

Awesome sencha with a fun complexity that brings something for everyone. The blend of different cultivars yields a really interesting profile that represents good umami and vegetal, grassy sweetness. Smell is amazing. Great sencha to try for beginners!
