Description

First harvest 2023

MITSUMI is a stunning example of a deep-steamed (fukamushi) sencha made by Nagayama san in Chiran. A first-harvest shincha that showcases the beauty of an early-picked tea.

Made with a blend of the Yutaka Midori and Yabukita cultivars, this sencha has a nice balance of light aromatic and vegetal characteristics. Notes of bean sprouts and watercress are accented by notes of wildflowers and kumquat peel.

This tea is a wonderful daily drink or a refreshing afternoon brew.

Favorite fukamushi

Love the deep flavor of this fukamushi. Surprisingly sweet--almost like a gyokuro--but still distinctively sencha.

Highly recommend

Mitsumi is one of my favorite Ikkyu teas. Its light umami flavor adds to the soft vegetal taste. Matsumi has a beautiful soft green color and gets darker with the second and third brews. I love that it is low in caffeine. I can enjoy a cup in the afternoon as well. I prefer to brew this tea at 145 degrees, it seems to be more flavorful.
